Delmas Foundation Humanities Program

The foundation awards grants to further the humanities along a broad front, supporting projects that address the original tenets of the studia humanitatis: a humanistic education is rooted in the great traditions of the past; the formation of human beings according to cultural, moral, and aesthetic ideals derived from that past; and the ongoing debate over how these ideals may best be conceived and realized. Programs in the following areas are eligible: - History - Archaeology - Literature - Languages, both classical and modern - Philosophy - Ethics - Comparative religion - The history, criticism, and theory of the arts - Those aspects of the social sciences that share the content and methods of humanistic disciplines The foundation welcomes projects that cross the boundaries between humanistic disciplines and explore the connection between the humanities and other areas of scholarship. The prime criterion remains that of Gladys and Jean Paul Delmas: a commitment to excellence, whether proven or promised, at every level of the humanistic spectrum.

Eligible projects can include innovative ways to promote summer reading or reach a new audience, the creation of an effective awareness campaign, or an innovative partnership that has solved a problem or met a community need.

Robert A. Welch Foundation Research Grant- FY 12

The purpose of this program is to support fundamental chemical research at universities, colleges, or other educational institutions within the state of Texas. In specific, the program provides support for a full-time tenured or tenure-track faculty member to conduct research in chemistry.

Funding may be used for the following:
-Fellowships and scholarships
-Fringe benefits for individuals receiving fellowship
-Permanent scientific equipment with at least one year useful life expectancy and costing a minimum of $5,000
-Expendable scientific items, services, and equipment maintenance
-Publication expenses
-Travel expenses not exceeding $1,500 per funding cycle.

John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation Offers Fellowships for Artists and Scholars

The John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation provides fellowships for advanced professionals in all fields (natural sciences, social sciences, humanities, creative arts) except the performing arts. The fellowships are intended to further the development of scholars and artists by assisting them to engage in research in any field of knowledge and creation in any of the arts, under the freest possible conditions.

Fellowships are awarded through two annual competitions: one open to citizens and permanent residents of the U.S. and Canada, and the other open to citizens and permanent residents of Latin America and the Caribbean.

For the U.S. and Canada competition, the deadline is September 15, 2011. For the Latin America and Caribbean competition, the deadline is December 1, 2011.
